Revd Julie Wearing- supporting police through volunteer chaplaincy
Julie Wearing
My Story
I began cold water swimming to support my mental health two years ago. I found it offered me a space to become grounded in amidst the stresses of every day life.
As Lead Chaplain to Humberside Police and staff, I am aware of just how much all staff work to serve and protect everyone, not just the frontline.
Police chaplaincy is largely volunteers who offer a safe, confidential space to support officers and staff in trauma, crises and the day-to-day stresses of life.
Police Chaplaincy UK is a charity and receives no funding in its role of supporting chaplaincy.
I am swimming 2 miles in the Great North Swim - the first time in a big lake. I am swimming because I believe everyone is entitled to good mental health in their jobs- that includes those that work on our behalf.
